Restroom Renovations

Emerson Middle School, Pomona High School
Pomona, CA

Project Overview

The Phase III scope included the removal of the existing toilet fixtures, renovation of the finishing to the existing studs, and creation of a new toilet room configuration that complies with the 2019 accessibility code. Reconfiguration of the current plumbing system as required. The current flooring and wall coverings were removed to the existing concrete substrate, and new tile flooring installed. The toilet room ceiling was replaced, and new lighting installed. Simons Middle School included Building D (1) Unisex, Building B (4) Boys/Girls. In addition, the walls and ceiling of the janitor compartment was painted and doors for the janitor’s rooms and toilet rooms were replaced. Pomona High School consisted of Building P (2) in addition to the elimination and replacement of approximately 1,000 square feet of asphalt paving located north of Locker Building P. The project at Garey High School addressed several key areas within Buildings Q (2), C (2), B (2), and G (2). Improvements included the installation of new surface-mounted conduits and vapor sensors to enhance infrastructure and safety. Furthermore, modifications were made to the existing fire alarm devices to ensure full compliance with current regulations. The project also encompassed the replacement of door frameworks and doors, as well as a complete replacement of the janitor room and floor basin. To meet regulatory requirements, the existing parking spaces were restriped and reconfigured to secure DSA approval. Finally, the current drinking fountain was replaced with a more accessible hi-lo model. Phase IV is currently in the construction phase; the scope of work at Emerson Middle School focuses on accessibility upgrades within several buildings. Specifically, Buildings C5 (1) Girls, C2 (2) Boys/Girls, C7 (1) Girls, C9 (1) Boys, and B6 (2) Unisex will undergo comprehensive toilet room renovations. This involves the removal of all existing toilet fixtures and finishes down to the existing studs, followed by a complete redesign and build-out to meet the 2019 accessibility code. Necessary reconfiguration of existing plumbing will be undertaken, and existing flooring and wall finishes will be removed down to the concrete substrate for the installation of new tile flooring. The existing toilet room ceilings will be replaced, and new lighting will be installed. While the existing ceiling joists will remain, the walls and ceiling of the existing janitor closet will be repainted. Furthermore, all existing doors and frames for the renovated toilet rooms and the janitor’s rooms will be replaced. Beyond these interior modifications, the project also includes ensuring accessible parking spaces and the installation of new hi-lo drinking fountains.
